Animal Control

The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office responds to all types of animal calls. We enforce the Herd District laws with the State Brand Inspector's Office. Deputies respond to livestock complaints, dogs at large, snake complaints, dead animals on the roadways, and fish and game complaints. While dogs at large are picked up by deputies and taken to the animal shelter, we do not pick up cats. Deputies work with local veterinarians regarding animal abuse complaints.

The Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter in Lewiston is where all dogs picked up by the Sheriff's Office are taken. This shelter is under new management, and great pains have been taken to update the facility and make it attractive to the public and homier for the animals. For more information, you may call them at 208-746-1623 or you can log on to their website. If you have lost an animal, this would be the first place to look.
