July 3, 2020 - The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office has temporarily stopped fingerprinting anyone who is not a Nez Perce County resident. Fingerprinting will resume on July 13th, business hours from 9am to 4pm. Non-criminal fingerprinting services are again being conducted with no appointment. To ensure social distancing measures, we ask that those needing fingerprints enter the building unaccompanied by others. Masks are mandatory and will be provided if you do not have one. Thank you for your understanding.


Starting June 1, 2020, Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office Driver's License Office will be opening for more services. We will be taking calls for appointments for citizens in Nez Perce, Latah, Clearwater, Lewis and Idaho Counties only. Anyone who calls from outside of the counties listed above we will not be able to assist at this time. If you have any questions you can call the Sheriff's Office and ask Sheriff Joe Rodriguez.

To ensure social distancing measures, the number of patrons scheduled will be limited, and we ask that appointment holders enter the building unaccompanied by others. Please call 208-799-3138 between 8am and 4pm to make an appointment. Employees will conduct screening prior to entry to our office. If you’ve been sick or in contact with anyone that possibly has Covid19, please reschedule your appointment. Callers should consider the following before requesting an appointment:

  • New residents from out of state may wait at least 14 days after moving to the county prior to making their appointment.
  • There is a 30-day grace period for CDLs and a 90-day grace period for Class D licenses and Identification cards.
  • The Real ID compliant card deadline has been extended to October 1, 2021.
  • Licenses expiring between March 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 have been granted emergency extensions to June 30, 2020. Extension letters can be obtained at the ITD.IDAHO.GOV website.

Under certain circumstances, online renewals, duplicate or replacement cards, address updates, and driving records are available at ITD.IDAHO.GOV

DOT physicals and address updates can be emailed to ITD Driver's License or faxed to 208-334-8586.

Suspension or reinstatement questions can be answered by calling ITD at 208-334-8736 or 208-334-8000.

Welcome to the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office

The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is located in northern Idaho. The Sheriff’s Office patrols more than 700 miles of roads and has 850 square miles within its jurisdiction, including two major U.S. Highways. There are eight different towns included within this area; Lewiston, Lapwai, Culdesac, Peck, Leland, Southwick, Cameron, and Lenore. The county is very diverse ranging from urban to rural to wilderness.

Nez Perce County has three major rivers within its jurisdiction; the Salmon, Snake and Clearwater Rivers. The Sheriff's Office has a marine patrol and utilizes three jet boats and personal watercrafts to patrol the rivers. All-terrain vehicles are utilized to patrol the Craig Mountain area 20 miles south of Lewiston.


The Nez Perce Indian Reservation is located just east of the county seat, Lewiston and covers approximately two-thirds of the county.

The Sheriff’s Office currently employs 70 personnel. These personnel consist of patrol deputies, detention deputies, dispatchers, civil and driver’s license clerks, secretaries and a maintenance technician.
