Marriage License - available by appointment only

MARRIAGE LICENSES AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

To schedule an appointment, first fill out the Online Marriage License Application. After submitting the application you will be contacted by a Deputy Clerk to schedule your appointment. Please make sure you have a valid phone number on the form.

Appointments will be offered in 15 minute increments.

Both Parties Must Appear
Once the online portion is filled out and appointment is scheduled both applicants must appear in person at the Nez Perce County Recorder’s Office to receive the marriage license.

Fee
The license fee of $28.00 can paid in cash or check payable to Nez Perce County Recorder.

Government Issued ID
Both applicants need to have a government issue, photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport).

Social Security Number
Both applicants will need to know their social security number. If either applicant does not have a social security number, you will need to obtain a letter from the social security office before making your appointment.

***With appointments being offered in a limited capacity, applicants are asked to be prepared and on time. If you are more than 5 minutes late for your appointment, your time will be forfeited and you will need to reschedule.***

Courthouse Weddings

Marriages performed by a judge at the Nez Perce County Courthouse require a separate appointment from the marriage license appointment.

MARRIAGE LICENSE CHECKLIST

  • Bride and groom must appear in the Recorder's office together
  • The marriage ceremony must take place within the State of Idaho
  • Bride and groom must be of legal age (18 years old)
  • A valid driver's license or picture ID is required. If valid ID is not available then a witness (with valid ID) must accompany the couple
  • Bride and groom must provide a social security number. If one has not been assigned, you will need all of the following: written verification from the Social Security Administration that you have not been assigned a number, and a birth certificate or passport
  • The fee for a marriage license is $28.00, cash or check only

MARRIAGE LICENSE CHECKLIST FOR MINORS (one or both under age 18)

  • The bride and groom must appear in the Recorder's office together
  • The marriage ceremony must take place within the State of Idaho
  • A valid driver's license or picture ID is required. If valid ID is not available then a witness (with valid ID) must accompany the couple
  • The bride and groom must be at least 16 years old. They must have a certified copy of their birth certificate. It must be a copy from the state they were born in, and will have a raised or colored seal. It cannot be a copy from the hospital with footprints.
  • A custodial parent or legal guardian of the minor couple must accompany the couple and give permission for them to be married. The parent or legal guardian must also show valid picture ID. The legal guardian must also bring a certified copy of the court papers showing guardianship.
  • Bride and groom must provide a social security number. If one has not been assigned, you will need all of the following: written verification from the Social Security Administration that you have not been assigned a number, and a birth certificate or passport
  • The fee for a marriage license is $28.00, cash or check only
