NOTICE 1
Idaho is transitioning away from physical registrations stickers, but all registration obligations remain in effect. This will eliminate the requirement to display registration stickers on license plates.
This will begin July 1, 2026.
This will not change registration fees, renewal periods, or other vehicle registration requirements.
Law enforcement will rely on digital verification rather than visual stickers.
Vehicle owners should continue to register and renew their vehicles on time to avoid fines, which can include a $101.00 infraction for expired registration.
NOTICE 2
Idaho's new License Plate Replacement Policy beginning July 1, 2026.
There will be no more mandatory 10-year replacement of plates.
Plates can now remain in use indefinitely, if they are readable and legible and meet display requirements.
Specialty Program plates that have been discontinued will also be allowed for indefinite use if they meet display requirements.
All plate numbers allowed to expire for 60 days will go back into the state inventory, this includes low number plates.
All plates that are not currently registered will go back into inventory.
If you have a plate number with a special meaning to you it must be registered for you to keep it.
Personalized plates go back into the inventory on the first day of expired registration.
